Social Worker

The Foundation for the Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers (Caritas Malta) would like to invite interested individuals to submit their applications for the position of Social Worker to work within Tal-Ibwar Adolescents Therapeutic Services, Psychosocial Team.

Role Responsibilities

The social worker shall form part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals that works directly with adolescents and their families receiving a service at Tal-Ibwar. In this role, the selected person is expected to contribute their social work expertise to address the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of service users, making use of the necessary resources to achieve the desired changes in the individual. The incumbent shall carry out assessments and social work interventions as required, and shall be the focal liaison person of each service user with external services and service providers, ensuring that the adolescent has a healthy network with the outside community that can help in achieving the individual’s full potential.

The social worker is expected to adopt a therapeutic community approach towards work, hence intervening in harmony with the structures and protocols that are intrinsic to Tal-Ibwar as a therapeutic community. To achieve this goal, the ideal candidate must be able to foster positive relationships with staff and residents and ensure to be part of the community life within Tal-Ibwar, whilst endorsing the core values and principles that underpin the therapeutic community model.

The social worker is directly accountable to the Head of Psychosocial Team of Tal-Ibwar.

Required Criteria

Individuals interested in this role shall meet the following requirements:

  • possess a recognized degree in social work and preferably in possession of a warrant;

  • past experience with adolescents and/or addictions shall be considered as an asset;

  • must have an empathic personality with a strong aptitude to work in the field of substance misuse;

  • be highly organized, responsible, flexible, and accountable;

  • have a strong aptitude for teamwork and be able to understand the therapeutic community concept;

  • be mature with sound moral values;

  • possess excellent verbal and written communication in both Maltese and English;

  • be IT literate;

  • possess a clean driving licence;
