Addiction Recovery Nurser

The Foundation for the Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers (Caritas Malta) invites applications for the role of an Addiction Recovery Nurse to work on a full-time basis.

Role Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will play a key role in delivering a holistic, client-centred care to the residents within Caritas rehabilitation programs. Working within a therapeutic community model, the individual will support both the physical and physiological well-being of service users and coordinate their medical needs as required.

The addiction recovery nurse will be responsible for assisting medical practitioners or specialists during their medical vists within the residences, and follow up any action plan required including updating treatment plans, preparing and monitoring medication administration, implement any changes in medication, monitor clients’ progress, and maintaining accurate medical records. In doing so, the selected person is expected to collaborate with heads, therapeutic facilitators, and psychosocial professionals to ensure integrated care with the sole aim to support each resident to use the therapeutic community effectively so that they can change.

The individual shall address any nursing needs or emergencies that may arise within the communities and provide first aid where required. Furthermore, this role requires the incumbent to take on the main responsibility for the safe and proper storage of medication and dispensation in line with Standard Operating Procedures, local legislation and regulatory standards. Due to the individual’s clinical background, the addiction recovery nurse shall be also committed to share their expertise through seminars, groups, and other educational actvities that the organisation undertakes.

 

The addiction recovery nurse is directly accountable to the respective Clinical Coordinator. 

Required Criteria

Individuals interested in this role shall meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a nursing qualification and valid professional warrant to practice nursing in Malta
  • Previous experience in mental health or addiction will be considered as an asset
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be highly empathic and have a caring attitude
  • Able to work within a multidisciplinary team and foster a strong teamwork approach
  • Committed to a recovery-oriented and person-centred approach
  • Have excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Possess good IT skills
  • Be proficient in verbal and written communication in both Maltese and English
  • Possess a clean driving license
  • Be mature with sound moral values
