Handyperson
Fondazzjoni Caritas Malta would like to invite interested individuals to submit their applications for the position of Handyperson on a full-time basis to work within the Corporate Unit of Caritas Malta.
Role Responsibilities
The Handyperson will be mainly responsible for the upkeep of facilities and equipment, and to undertake general maintenance and repair tasks within Caritas premises as required to ensure that these are kept up to standard.
Reporting to the Corporate Manager, the key responsibilities include:
- conduct routine inspections and maintenance of buildings and equipment;
- perform general plumbing and electrical repairs;
- carry out installations, inspections, fault diagnosis, testing, and replacement of appliances, fixtures and fittings;
- undertake general carpentry, tiling, painting & decorating;
- execute routine preventive maintenance of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and ELV devices;
- identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repairs, ensuring compliance with the set standards of working practices and health and safety;
- run errands that are necessary for the carrying out of duties;
- assist Caritas staff and teams with the usage/handling of equipment as well as preparation of premises, particularly for organisational activities and events;
- assist the Corporate Manager in the execution of corporate needs of the organisation.
This position requires the incumbent to adopt a community approach with other staff and teams, hence being open to assist where necessary and contribute to the community ethos and values of the organisation.
Eligibility Criteria
The individuals interested in this role shall meet the following requirements:
- demonstrate proven experience as a handyperson or similar role;
- have knowledge of general maintenance techniques and tools;
- have strong problem-solving skills with a can-do attitude;
- be adept in general DIY, plumbing, basic electrical works, basic carpentry, tiling/flooring, plastering and painting;
- must have knowledge local health and safety procedures;
- possess good verbal and writing communication skills in both Maltese and English;
- be highly responsible, accountable and able to work under minimal supervision;
- have a strong aptitude for teamwork;
- be mature with sound moral values;
- possess a clean driving licence;
- Candidates who do not meet the above criteria will not be considered.
